My grandma just came up to my room and called my sis and i together. She said she had something to tell us. All of us sudden she broke down and cried. My sis and i were shocked.

My aunt/Godma is going to be a nun. She'll be leaving my family and going to Bangkok next March for 5 years to answer God's calling, perhaps before coming back to Singapore again to become a "full-fledged" nun.

My sis and i were stunned. Since young, we had always thought she was a "nun-to-be" already cos she didnt get married and was a very devout person. Yet this time, it's all going to be true. I saw, from the corner of my eye, tears rolling down my sis's cheeks. I too felt my eyes welling up with tears. We didnt know how to react, much less comfort my grandma who was already absolutely distraught.

My grandma also told us that my aunt would only be able to visit us once a year after she's gone, but with my grandparents already getting on in years, both of them were completely devastated and upset that should anything happen to them or with my grandfather's health taking a toll on him, my aunt wouldnt be there by any of their sides. I was saddened and simply outraged.

My other aunt wont be going though, but i dont know if she'll do so in the future too. I do believe that God has a calling for every single one of us, but the thought of taking a daughter away from an elderly couple whose time would probably be up soon just made me feel resentful. My eldest aunt had already passed away when she was only 18, and now God had to take another one away.

Whatever happened to God's basic teachings of being filial children to our parents?! I dont think giving monetary aid does help cure any of the pain my grandparents feel.
