Guilty Pleasures

Tomorrow brings me one step closer to seeing my Lam Fung, indulging in five-star dim sum, and sinful shopping sprees.

O Hongkong here i come!

The grapes are oh so sour

Im idle. Im unemployed. Im afraid. And im cynical.

I wish they would stop running those full-page congratulatory ads in the papers every day. Its not only jarring to my eyes, its also torturing me mentally and emotionally.

So for us who are not an NUS/SMU/NTU alum, our only places are in the shadows of our "locally-produced" peers? So what if we are technically part of the Class of 2007? I dont feel a single tinge of acknowledgement; only buckets of acid thrown in my face. Ok, so im jealous cos im not of those who made it to the Dean's List, scored several job offers and landed at least a 2.5k starting pay. But seriously, i dont feel a wee bit recognised as being a member of my own country's knowledge economy, much less a contributor to it. In fact, i even feel sorry for my parents that they have to deal with the emotional stress of their child's segregation from the "mainstream" party.

Is this a subconscious (or should i say, repressed) indication of my innate desire to conform; and of my hunger to be accepted by local society? Undeniably so. But its only because those so-called "success stories" glorified by the media make me doubt myself and render my own achievements under-qualified.

How much more of an escapist can i be?

Sometimes i really wonder if God has granted me the special gift of being my own psychologist.

Im honestly quite drained having to deal with things all by myself. Yet its ironic how this self-reliance has gradually solidified over the past few years.

Im afraid of socialising, but im also afraid of being socially phobic.

I dont want to escape. But i really cant help it.

*)^#$%^(&O

Im so pissed off with myself i just wanna jump off a building right now.

ARGHHH.

*edit

Maybe not finding out would have been better.
Then again the truth would still emerge eventually.

I HATE BLEMISHES. ESPECIALLY IN MY RECORD.

No Beat

After watching OTFB for 26 episodes, all i can say is the show is disappointingly boring. Perhaps they shouldnt have made a sequel - particularly when they had to change half the original cast. Unlike the action-packed Academy, multi-angular relationships take the centrestage in OTFB. They are draggy and repetitive, making me already blase as to who likes who, who makes up with who, or who breaks up with who once again. Up till the current ep, there still seems to be no sign of a conclusion in sight despite having to end after 4 more eps. Also, i was expecting more action this time round since the streets of HK would appear to offer more possibilities for activity as compared to the PTS grounds previously. But no, all they do is just take us on a patrol around Yau Ma Tei. YAWN. Cummon man! Whatever happened to all the energy?! Helloo, i wanna watch Lap Man and Pak Kiu continue to pit themselves against each other, the teamwork and camaraderie between the cadets and the life lessons they're supposed to learn from their new "Lee Sir". Sadly, this pathetic guy's too caught up with his own relationship troubles to remember at all his promise to continue teaching and guiding them. Tsk.

I gave this show the benefit of the doubt despite my initial apprehensions after reading early reports about the production. However, im sorely disappointed - not so much with the acting (the OTT Kate Tsui excepted) - but more with the plot itself rather. While the Academy at that time was slightly hindered by some weakness in the acting (*cough* Ron Ng *cough*); the focused plot and emotional storytelling well redeemed it. On the other hand, OTFB suffers terrbily from the bland story so much so that even the much-improved performances by Ron & Sammul couldn't stop me from fast-forwarding every now and then. I think i should just go back to rewatching The Academy and recall why they decided to make a sequel in the first place.

Sinking in Sloth

Neglecting my blog is a pretty obvious sign that im falling back into sloth once again. My mind's not feeling very active these days and so are my fingers. But then if i dont blog, there's not much else for me to do either. I was never this bored back in Perth even though i cooped up at home every single day. I remember doing endless surfing, so much so that there wasnt even any motivation for me to feel hungry at dinnertime despite not having any brekky and lunch. Yet here in Singapore i have practically exhausted all my possible sources of activity, leaving my mind to only flit around the house aimlessly. I reckon the weather has sucked out every single trace of motivation for physical activity left in me.

Anyway, did i mention that i met Meely's cousins at Margaret River 3 weeks ago? All i can say is, her skinny genes certainly dont run in her family.
