Why we should always check the equipment before going on location shoot

Today was totally screwed up. Was supposed to shoot our production at Nate's place, but ended up only completing one bloody scene - the exterior of the house for the opening. A mere 10 seconds for a day's shoot. I think we've probably broken a record.

And why was that? Because the damn sound didnt work!!! The stupid cable wire snapped and so no sound could be picked up at all. All this after setting up the camera, lights and having the actor ready (topless in bed...ooh!). We tried fiddling with it, calling Sam for help unsuccessfully, contemplating if we should drive all the way back to uni to change the cable, cursing, swearing, everything! Until finally, we had no choice but to try buying a new cable ourselves.

So the 4 of us girls went in Amber's and Claire's car, first to Westfield Innaloo - no cable; drove to Harvey Norman - no cable; transferred to Amber's car, then drove again to some audio store - no cable; drove to Osbourne Park Retra Vision - no cable; until finally, when we were just about to give it all up, we made the final stop at Dick Smith and thank god the guy offered to solder the wires for us and got it all fixed!!! What a hellava day!

Sheesh, we wasted half the day driving around exploring Scarborough instead of shooting our film (not that i didnt enjoy the ride though. Sitting in your friends' car is always pure fun). Now, we have to return tomorrow for another shoot which means that it'll probably drag till next weekend as well. All this when we still have so many other assignments to complete! Argh! Editing's gonna be hell too, probably having to camp overnight in the suites just editing away to get the whole film done on time. Bah!

If Michelle were to find out what happened today, she'll prolly give us another lecture on Why We Should Always Check Our Equipment Before Going On Location. We definitely deserved all this cos we didnt heed her advice, even after numerous times she stressed it since the start of sem. GRR. Everything had better go well tomorrow. Another tiny hiccup and i swear i'll smash that camera/lights/mic/whatever.
